How to Link or Unlink a Nintendo Network ID to a Nintendo Account

Notes:

• If you need help using your NNID to create a new Nintendo Account, click here.

• The country and date of birth listed for your Nintendo Network ID MUST MATCH the country and date of birth in your Nintendo Account. If they do not match, you will not be able to link the accounts together.

• To update an NNID for a child's Nintendo Account, you will need to sign in with the child’s account information. The NNID cannot be changed through the parent/guardian’s Nintendo Account.

To link a new NNID follow the steps below:

From a Nintendo Switch Console:

1. Select your user icon on the HOME Menu of your Nintendo Switch console.

2. Highlight “Friend Suggestions,” then use the L/R Buttons to highlight the picture of the Wii U or Nintendo 3DS systems. Select "Next".

   • The Nintendo Switch system will need to have a menu version of 3.0 or higher for Wii U / Nintendo 3DS images to appear.

   • If the "Next" button does not appear when you highlight one of the pictures, you have already linked your NNID to the Nintendo Account.

3. Enter your Nintendo Account password when prompted, then “OK”. Select "Next".

4. Enter your Nintendo Network ID and password, then “Sign In” to complete the link.

   • The NNID date of birth and country settings must match the date of birth.

   • If you cannot remember your NNID or password, use the "Forgot your ID?" or "Forgot your password?" links on the screen to request an e-mail with the information.

From a PC or smart device (website):

1. Go to http://accounts.nintendo.com and sign in to your Nintendo Account.

2. Click "User Information", then scroll down to the "Linked accounts" section and click "Change".

   • If you are using a Nintendo Account for a child, this option will say “Link a Nintendo Network ID”.

3. Click the box next to "Nintendo Network ID".

4. Follow the on-screen steps to add your NNID and password.

   • The NNID date of birth and country settings must match .

   • If you cannot remember your NNID or password, use the "Forgot your ID?" or "Forgot your password?" links on the screen to request an e-mail with the information.

To unlink an existing NNID follow the steps below:

1. Go to http://accounts.nintendo.com and sign in to your Nintendo Account.

2. Click "User Information", then scroll down to the "Linked Accounts" section and click "Change".

3. To unlink an NNID from your Nintendo Account, click the checkmark next to "Nintendo Network ID" to remove the link.

   • Once the link is removed, your Mii will no longer be displayed.
