Use the section below to understand the difference between purchasing the DLC and downloading it for free with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.

Nintendo eShop Purchase

Cost: Price available on Nintendo eShop

Who can play:

• The account that purchased the DLC

• All users on the purchasing account's primary console

When it can be played: Indefinitely

Internet requirements:

• Internet connection not required to access content

• Internet connection and Nintendo Switch Online membership required to use online features

Save data:

• Stored on the console

• Nintendo Switch Online membership required for save data backup feature

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Membership

Cost: As part of membership for no additional cost

Who can play:

• Any account with an individual membership

• All accounts that are part of a Nintendo Account family group with a family membership

When it can be played: For the duration of the active membership

Internet requirements:

• Internet connection required when launching the game

• Internet connection required to use online features

Save data:

• Stored on the console

• If membership expires, save data is retained and can be accessed again after purchasing another membership or purchasing the DLC separately

What to do

Will you be accessing the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass through a Nintendo eShop purchase or through a free download as part of a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership?

Nintendo eShop Purchase

1. Purchase the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass DLC on Nintendo eShop.

   • The DLC must be downloaded to your console to access the content. If it has been deleted, it can be redownloaded on Nintendo eShop.

2. Ensure that your Mario Kart 8 Deluxe software has been updated to the latest version.

3. Launch Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and proceed through your selected game mode:

   • Single Player: Grand Prix, Time Trial, VS Race

   • Multiplayer: Grand Prix, VS Race

   • Online Play: Friends and Rivals

   • Wireless Play

4. Upon reaching the course selection screen, any new cups released as part of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass can be accessed by pressing the L Button or R Button or by moving the Left Stick upwards.

5. When playing Online Play in Global, Regional or Tournament mode, any courses released as part of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass will appear randomly among the selection of courses offered before each race.

   • Courses available in Wave 1 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass will be added to the random rotation in Online Play Global, Regional and Tournament modes from 22 March 2022.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack download

1. Begin a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership or join a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack family membership if you do not already have an active membership.

2. Download the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass DLC for free from the Nintendo Switch Online menu on Nintendo eShop.

3. Ensure that your Mario Kart 8 Deluxe software has been updated to the latest version.

4. Launch Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and proceed through your selected game mode:

   • Single Player: Grand Prix, Time Trial, VS Race

   • Multiplayer: Grand Prix, VS Race

   • Online Play: Friends and Rivals

   • Wireless Play

Playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass content without a standalone purchase or Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass membership

Players who have not purchased the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass separately or accessed it for no additional cost as part of a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership can still play the new available courses in the following scenarios:

• Via Online Play > Friends and Rivals mode, if the room host has purchased the content or has access to it through a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. All players in a Friends and Rivals room can freely choose from the cups and courses available to the room host.

• Via Online Play > Global, Regional and Tournament modes, available randomly as part of the courses offered before each race.

  • Courses available in Wave 1 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass will be added to the random rotation in Online Play Global, Regional and Tournament modes from 22 March 2022.

• Via Wireless Play, if the room host has purchased the content or has access to it through a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. All players in a Wireless Play room can freely choose from the cups and courses available to the room host.
