Forgot Nintendo Network ID Password

Information about resetting a forgotten password for a Nintendo Network ID.

Important:

Temporary passwords expire after 24 hours.

What to Do:

You can request a temporary password via your Wii U console or Nintendo 3DS system.

Which are you using to sign in with your Nintendo Network ID?

Nintendo 3DS

  1. Select "System Settings" from the HOME Menu on your Nintendo 3DS system. 

  2. Select "Nintendo Network ID Settings". 

  3. When prompted to enter your password, select "I forgot". 

  4. You can also select "I forgot" from the Password Settings. 

  5. Select "Yes". An email with a temporary password will be sent to the email address associated with your Nintendo Network ID. 

  6. Once the email arrives, access the Nintendo Network ID Settings on your Nintendo 3DS system. 

  7. From the HOME Menu, select "System Settings", then "Nintendo Network ID Settings". 

  8. Select "Sign in" to enter a password. 

  9. Enter the temporary password you received, then select "Confirm" to sign in. 

  10. Once you have signed in, update the password associated with your NNID.


Wii U

  1. Select your Mii on the user selection screen. 

  2. When prompted for your password, select "I Forgot". 

  3. Select "Send". An email with a temporary password will be sent to the email address associated with your Nintendo Network ID. 

  4. If you have not confirmed your email address, you will be prompted to do that before a temporary password can be sent. Select "Resend Email" to resend the verification email, then follow the instructions in the email to confirm. You will then be able to request the temporary password. 

  5. Select "OK" to return to the password entry screen. 

  6. Once the email arrives, return to your Wii U console and enter the temporary password that you received. Select "OK" to sign in. 

  7. Once you have signed in, access "User Settings" to update the password associated with your NNID.
