    • How to Add a New User Account

      User accounts are used to manage each player’s save data and personal settings.

      Up to 8 user accounts can be created on the Nintendo Switch.

      A user account can also be linked to a Nintendo Account at any time after it is created.

      Once a Nintendo Account is linked to the account, the system's online features will be available.

      1. Select “System Settings” on the HOME Menu.
         
      2. Scroll down to highlight “Users,” then select “Add User.”
         
      3. Click “Next.”
         
      4. Select the icon you would like to have associated to your account.
        • Tap “More Options” for additional characters / backgrounds to choose from.
           
        • If you would like to add a Mii instead of a picture, click “Mii” to create one.
           
      5. Once you have selected a character, enter a nickname when prompted. Select “OK.”
        • Your nickname can be seen by other players, so don’t include any personal information.
           
        • Your nickname can be changed at any time once your account is created.
           
      6. Select “OK” again to confirm.
         
      7. At this point, you will be given the option to link a Nintendo Account to your user account.
         

      Link an existing Nintendo Account
       

      1. Select “Sign In and Link” to link an existing Nintendo Account.
         
      2. Select the sign in information for your Nintendo Account:
        • "Sign in using e-mail address or User ID” - Enter the e-mail address or User ID and password associated to your account, then click “Sign in.”
           
        • “Sign in using a different account” - Click the appropriate service (Nintendo Network ID, Twitter, Facebook, or Google) and enter your log in information for the service.*
          • Apple ID is not currently a sign-in option on Nintendo Switch. If you have created a Nintendo Account with an Apple ID only, please log into your account from a computer or smart device and register an email address or link an additional service.


                        *Please note this sign in method is not available on iOS smart devices.
       

      1. You will receive a confirmation message that your Nintendo Account is now linked to your user account. Click “OK” to return to the System Settings.
         
      2. Select “Add User” if you would like to add additional accounts, or press the B Button to return to the HOME Menu.
         

      Create and link a new Nintendo Account
       

      1. Select “Create Account” to set up a new Nintendo Account.
        • Optional - On the following screen, you can request an e-mail with instructions to link your Nintendo Account with a confirmation code.
           
      2. On your PC or smart device, visit http://accounts.nintendo.com and create a Nintendo Account.
         
      3. Once you have created the Nintendo Account, return to the Nintendo Switch and click “Sign in.”
         
      4. Select the sign in information for your Nintendo Account:
        • "Sign in using e-mail address or User ID” - Enter the e-mail address or User ID and password associated to your account, then click “Sign in.”
           
        • “Sign in using a different account” - Click the appropriate service (Nintendo Network ID, Twitter, Facebook, or Google) and enter your log in information for the service.*
          • Apple ID is not currently a sign-in option on Nintendo Switch. If you have created a Nintendo Account with an Apple ID only, please log into your account from a computer or smart device and register an email address or link an additional service.
             

                        *Please note this sign in method is not available on iOS smart devices.
       

      1. You will receive a confirmation message that your Nintendo Account is now linked to your user account. Click “OK” to return to the system settings.
         
      2. Select “Add User” if you would like to add additional accounts, or press the B Button to return to the HOME Menu.
         

      Proceed without linking
       

      1. Select “Later” if you do not wish to create or link a Nintendo Account at this time.
        • Note that many of the system’s online features are not available until a Nintendo Account is linked.
           
      2. Once your account is created, you will return to the System Settings. Select “Add User” if you would like to add additional accounts, or press the B Button to return to the HOME Menu.
    • How to Edit User Profile Settings

      The following Profile Settings can be adjusted for each user:

      • Nickname – Edit the nickname that can be seen by other players.

      • Edit Icon – Select a character or Mii, or adjust the background.
         

      A user’s profile settings can be edited in the following ways:

      • From the user's page:
        1. From the HOME Menu, select the user’s page you wish to edit.
           
        2. Select “User Settings.”
           
      • From System Settings:
        1. From the HOME Menu, select “System Settings.”
           
        2. Scroll down the options on the left and select “Users.” Then select the user profile you wish to edit.
           
    • How to Delete a User Account on Nintendo Switch

      Deleting a user account will delete all save data associated to the account. Save data cannot be restored once it is deleted.

      If the user account is linked to a Nintendo Account, the Nintendo Account will not be deleted. However, software purchased with the account cannot be played until the Nintendo Account is re-linked to a new user account.

      1. Select “System Settings” from the HOME Menu.
         
      2. Scroll down to highlight “Users,” then select the appropriate user account to access the Profile Settings.
         
      3. Scroll down to the bottom of the settings and select “Delete User.”
        • If a Parental Control PIN has been set for the system, you will be prompted to enter it to proceed.
           
      4. Check the box next to “Delete,” then select “Next.”
        • If a Nintendo Account is linked, select “Confirm,” then “Unlink” to remove the Nintendo Account link.
           
      5. Select “Delete this User.”
         
      6. Once the account has been deleted, select “OK” to return to the system.
         
    • Linking a User to a Nintendo Account
      • Once a Nintendo Account is linked to the User, the system's online features will be available.
         
      • Nintendo Accounts for children (age 12 and under) must be created through the parent or guardian’s Nintendo Account. Once the child’s Nintendo Account has been created, it can be linked to Nintendo Switch.
         
      1. At any point after you have created a user account select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
         
      2. Scroll down to highlight Users, then select the appropriate user account to access the Profile Settings.
         
      3. Select Link Nintendo Account.
         

      Do you have an existing Nintendo Account or do you need to create a new one?
       

      Linking an existing Nintendo Account

      1. Select Sign In and Link to link an existing Nintendo Account.
         
      2. Select the sign in information for your Nintendo Account:
        • Sign in using e-mail address or Sign-In ID: Enter the email address or Sign-In ID and password associated to your account, then click Sign in.
           
        • Sign in with a smart device: Use a smart device to sign in to your Nintendo Account using your Nintendo Account password or other account login information (Apple, Google, Facebook, Twitter) and receive a code to enter on Nintendo Switch.
           
      3. You will receive a confirmation message that your Nintendo Account is now linked to your user account. Click OK to return to the system settings.
         

      Create and link a new Nintendo Account

      1. Select Create Account to set up a new Nintendo Account.
        • Optional - On the following screen, you can request an e-mail with instructions to link your Nintendo Account with a confirmation code.
           
      2. On your PC or smart device, visit http://accounts.nintendo.com and create a Nintendo Account.
         
      3. Once you have created the Nintendo Account, return to the Nintendo Switch and click Sign in.

      5. You will receive a confirmation message that your Nintendo Account is now linked to your user account. Click OK to return to the system settings
    • How to Create a Mii

      Up to 100 Mii characters can be stored on a single Nintendo Switch console.

      1. From the HOME Menu select “System Settings.”
         
      2. Scroll down the options on the left and select “Mii,” then “Create/Edit a Mii.”
         
      3. Select “Create New Mii” and choose from one of the following options:
         

      Start from Scratch

      1. Select the gender for your Mii character.
         
      2. Use the left control stick or the D-pad on the left Joy-Con to navigate through the different physical features for your Mii character, such as face, eyebrows, nose, facial hair, etc. Use the right Joy-Con to select an option.
         
      3. Use the on-screen keyboard to enter a nickname for your Mii, then select “OK” or press the “+” Button on the right Joy-Con.
        • Nicknames can be up to 10 characters long.
           
      4. When you are finished creating your Mii, press “Done.”
         

      Choose a Look-Alike

      1. Select the gender for your Mii character, then choose an available Mii from the screen.
        • To view additional characters, press the Y Button or select “More Options.”
           
      2. Click “Next” to edit the Mii you selected.
         
      3. Use the left control stick or the D-pad on the left Joy-Con to navigate through the different physical features for your Mii character, such as face, eyebrows, nose, facial hair, etc. Use the right Joy-Con to select an option.
         
      4. Use the on-screen keyboard to enter a nickname for your Mii, then select “OK” or press the “+” Button on the right Joy-Con.
        • Nicknames can be up to 10 characters long.
           
      5. When you are finished editing your Mii, press “Done.”
         

      Copy Mii from amiibo

      1. Hold an amiibo to the NFC touchpoint on the right Joy-Con.
         
      2. Remove the amiibo once the message “Copied Mii” is displayed on the screen.
        If the following message is displayed, “There is no Mii registered to this amiibo,” you will need to first register an amiibo and give it a nickname.
    • How to Edit or Delete a Mii
      1. From the HOME Menu, select "System Settings." 
         
      2. Scroll down the options on the left and select "Mii."
         
      3. Select "Create/Edit a Mii."
         
      4. Select "Mii List." Choose the Mii character you want to edit/delete.
         

      Do you want to Edit or Delete a Mii?

      • Edit
        1. Select "Edit."
           
        2. Use the control stick or the directional buttons on the left Joy-Con to navigate through the different physical features for your Mii character, such as Face, Eyebrows, Nose, Facial Hair, etc. Use the right Joy-Con to select it.
           
        3. When you are finished editing your Mii, press "Done."
           
      • Delete
        1. Select "Delete," then "Delete" again.
           
    • System Settings Overview

      Access System Settings to configure important settings on the console such as user settings or the Internet connection.

      The following settings are available on Nintendo Switch:

      • Support / Health & Safety
        • Safety Precautions

        • Error History 
           
      • Airplane Mode
        When enabled, all wireless communications, such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, will be turned off. Some types of wireless communications can still be switched on manually when the console is in Airplane mode.

        Airplane mode cannot be set while the console is in TV mode.
         
      • Screen Brightness
        Enable or disable Auto-Brightness Adjustment or set the console screen brightness manually. These options cannot be configured while the console is in TV mode.
         
      • Screen Lock
        Enable or disable a screen lock when the console goes into sleep mode.
         
      • Parental Controls
        Parental Controls can be used to restrict features of this console. Parental Controls can be configured from the console or using your smart device.
         
      • Internet
        Configure your Internet connection.
         
      • Data Management
        Manage downloaded software, save data, and screenshots.
         
      • Users
        Add or delete users.
         
    • System Menu Overview

      The menus that are displayed by the HOME Button and the POWER Button are collectively referred to as system menus. You can access these system menus while playing an application on the Nintendo Switch, and then return to the application after you are done.

      The System Menus available on Nintendo Switch are:

      • Entrance Menu

      • HOME Menu

      • Launcher - This screen displays all installed applications

      • Quick Settings

      • POWER Menu
    • How to Access/Change the Quick Settings

      Quick Settings are a group of frequently used settings that can be invoked at any time. They will be displayed on the right side of the screen.

      To access Quick Settings:

      Press and hold the HOME Button for at least one second.

      • Within the Quick Settings screen you can access the following options:

        • Sleep Mode - Set the console to sleep mode.

          • This option can also be configured. In order to configure sleep mode, you must access the System Settings Menu.
             
        • Auto-Brightness - Enable/disable screen brightness adjustment based on ambient brightness.

        • Screen Brightness - Manually adjust screen brightness.

        • Airplane Mode - Disable all wireless communication functionality, including Internet communication, local communication, Bluetooth, and the NFC Reader/Writer. Some types of wireless communication can still be switched on manually when the console is in Airplane Mode.

          When Airplane Mode is enabled, the Joy-Con cannot be used wirelessly. It must be attached to the console.
           

      To exit Quick Settings:

      Perform one of the following actions.

      • Press the B Button

      • Press the HOME button

      • Tap outside of the Quick Settings screen
    • How to Access/Change the System Settings
      1. From the HOME Menu, select System Settings.
         
      2. Scroll through the System Settings menu on the left and select the setting you want to change.
        • Click here to see a list of the System Settings that are available on Nintendo Switch.
           
    • How to Change the Date and Time
      1. From the HOME Menu, select “System Settings.” 

      2. Scroll down the options on the left and select “System.”

      3. On the right-hand side of the screen, select “Date and Time.”
        • If prompted, enter your Parental Controls PIN. If you have forgotten your PIN, click here.
           

      The Date and Time can be set in two ways:

      • Synchronize Clock via Internet.
        When enabled, this feature will synchronize the date and time on the Nintendo Switch console with the date and time on the Internet.

        Press A to turn on this feature. Press A again to turn it off.

        This feature cannot be turned off while the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app is linked to the console.
         
      • Manually.
        1. Select the correct time zone.
           
        2. Select “Date and Time.”
           
        3. Select the month, day, year, and time. Then select “OK.”
           
    • How to Change the Sleep Mode Settings
      1. From the HOME Menu select “System Settings.”
         
      2. Scroll down the options on the left and select “Sleep Mode.” The following settings can be configured:
        • Auto-Sleep (Playing on Console Screen). While in Handheld mode or Tabletop mode the console will enter sleep mode after a set period of inactivity. This time can be set to 1, 3, 5, 10, or 30 minutes. To disable Auto-Sleep while using the console screen, select “Never.”
           
        • Auto-Sleep (Connected to TV). While in TV Mode the console will enter sleep mode after a set period of inactivity. This time can be set to 1, 2, 3, 6, or 12 hours. To disable Auto-Sleep while using the console in TV mode, select “Never.”
           
        • Suspend Auto-Sleep While Playing Media Content. This prevents Auto-Sleep from activating while media content is playing. If this option is disabled, the console will still go to sleep after four hours of media playback.
           
    • How to Change the System Language

      When changing the system language, the Nintendo Switch console will need to be restarted. Any suspended software will be closed.

      The system language on Nintendo Switch can be set to: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, and Japanese.

      1. From the HOME Menu, select “System Settings.”
         
      2. Scroll down the options on the left and select “System.”
         
      3. On the right-hand side select “Language,” then select the desired language.
         
    • How to Change the Theme

      The background theme on Nintendo Switch can be set to Basic White or Basic Black.

      1. From the HOME Menu, select “System Settings.”
         
      2. Scroll down the options on the left and select “Theme.”
         
      3. Select the desired background theme.
