    • What is required to use the Nintendo Switch Online app?

      To use the Nintendo Switch Online app, you must have the following:

      • A Nintendo Switch and compatible game (either physical or digital).
      • An Android or iOS smart device.
      • A Nintendo Account linked to your Nintendo Switch console and smart device.
      • An active Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use the online features of the Nintendo Switch Online app.
      • Important: The Nintendo Switch Online app service can be used by Nintendo Account holders who are age 13 and older.

      An active Internet connection is required to download and use the application. As with most applications, data usage rate will vary by application feature. Your internet/mobile service provider may apply data charges based on how you connect the smart device to the Internet. The Nintendo Switch Online application can use mobile data or Wi-Fi network.
       

    • How do I get the Nintendo Switch Online app?

      The Nintendo Switch Online app can be downloaded to your smart device from the App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android).

    • Which smart devices are supported?

      iOS:

      • Devices using iOS 9.0 or later are supported.

      Android:

      • Devices using Android 4.4 or later are supported.

      Important: While the Nintendo Switch Online app supports the above operating systems, it does not guarantee compatibility with all devices that use these OS versions.

    • How to Download or Update the Nintendo Switch Online App

      Instructions on downloading or updating the Nintendo Switch Online app.

      • The Nintendo Switch Online app service can be used by Nintendo Account holders who are age 13 and older.

      Complete These Steps:

      1. From your smart device, visit either the App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android) and search for "Nintendo Switch Online."
      2. You can also find a link to the application at lounge.nintendo.com.
      3. Select the Nintendo Switch Online app, and then select the appropriate option to download/install/update the application.
      4. Once downloaded, select the Nintendo Switch Online app to open it, and then sign in with your Nintendo Account.

      (*1) This excludes apps with audio output or apps that use the microphone.

      (*2) If the power-saving feature is activated on devices using Android 6.0 or later, voice chat may be interrupted after the device has entered sleep mode. To use voice chat during sleep mode, go to Other Settings > Power Saving Settings in the app and deactivate battery optimization on the Android device.     • How to Voice Chat Using the Nintendo Switch Online App

      Additional Information:

      • An active Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use the voice chat features of the Nintendo Switch Online app.
      • A list of software that supports voice chat using the Nintendo Switch Online app can be found within the app by selecting “Voice Chat” from the Main Menu, and then selecting “Supported Software.”
      • The Nintendo Switch Online app service can be used by Nintendo Switch Online members who are age 13 and older.

      Complete These Steps:

      1. From your smart device, download and install the Nintendo Switch Online app.
      2. Start the Nintendo Switch Online app and sign in with your Nintendo Account.
      3. From your Nintendo Switch console, start the compatible software using the same Nintendo Account as used on the Nintendo Switch Online app.
      4. Enter the mode that supports voice chat over the Nintendo Switch Online app.
      5. On the smart device, select “Start” after receiving the prompt asking, “Start voice chat?”
      6. As you play online, other players using the Nintendo Switch Online app will join the voice chat lobby as they join your online game.
    • How to Start or Join a Splatoon 2 Online Lounge

      Important:

      • All players wishing to use voice chat must download the Nintendo Switch Online app to a smart device and sign in using the same Nintendo Account they are using to play Splatoon 2.
      • An active Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use the online features of Splatoon 2 and the Nintendo Switch Online app.
         

      Applies to: Create Room

      Complete These Steps:

      From Splatoon 2:

      1. Press the X Button to open the Menu, and then select "Lobby." ◦Select "Grizzco" instead of "Lobby" if you are joining a Salmon Run.

      1. Scroll down and select "Online Lounge."

      1. Select "Create Room," and use the drop-down menu to select the game mode.
      • Private Match
      • League Battle (pair)
      • League Battle (team)

      Important: Only Salmon Run can only be selected when the Online Lounge is created from Grizzco.

      1. Select "Allow Nintendo Switch friends to join the room with a password" if you would like users without the Nintendo Switch Online app to join.
      2. Select OK to create the room.
      3. Select "Send Notification to My Smart Device."
      4. Return to your smart device and complete the following steps.

      On your smart device:

      1. Select the notification you've received, or open the Nintendo Switch Online app and select the room you've created. 
      2. Select from the following invitation methods and follow the onscreen steps to send the invite(s):
        • Social Network Friend.
          • Send a URL using messaging applications or social media platforms which other players can open on their smart device to join your lounge.
        • Nintendo Switch Friend.
          • Send a notification to the smart device of players from your Nintendo Switch friend list that use the Nintendo Switch Online app.
             
        • User You Played With.
          • Send a notification to the smart device of players you recently played with that use the Nintendo Switch Online app.
      1. Once the other users have accepted your invite and joined the Online Lounge in Splatoon2, you will be able to voice chat with the users.
         

      Applies to: Join a Room:

      From your smart device:

      1. Select the notification you've received, or open the Nintendo Switch Online app and select "Invitation List," and then select the room you'd like to join.
        • If you were invited via Social Network, open the URL that was sent to you by your friend.
      2. Return to Splatoon 2 and complete the following steps.

      From Splatoon 2:

      1. Press the X Button to open the Menu, and then select "Lobby."
        • Select "Grizzco" instead of "Lobby" if you would like to join a Salmon Run Online Lounge during the designated Salmon Run times.

      1. Scroll down and select "Online Lounge."

      1. Select the room you were invited to join.

       

       

       

    • Can I use the Nintendo Switch Online app on multiple smart devices?

      If you would like to change the devices you can sign into the new device using your Nintendo Account. However; it is not possible to use voice chat on two or more smart devices at the same time if they use the same Nintendo Account. Each user would need to use his or her own Nintendo Account and active Nintendo Switch Online membership in order to voice chat with each other.

    • Can I use a headset or headphones for voice chat?

      Yes. You are able to use headsets or headphones connected to your smartphone. If using a wireless Bluetooth headphone or headset, ensure it supports the HSP or HFP Bluetooth profile.

      Please note that game sounds normally output from the TV or Nintendo Switch console will not be heard from your smart device.

    • How do I set Parental Control restrictions?

      The service can be used by Nintendo Account holders who are age 13 and older. Because the app runs on your smart device, it cannot be controlled by the parental controls offered in Nintendo's ecosystem. To set restrictions for use of the Nintendo Switch Online app, please refer to your smart device settings.
