Yes, a Nintendo Switch system is required, and is sold separately.

    • Is Nintendo Labo a video game?

Nintendo Labo is not a video game in the traditional sense. Nintendo Labo combines physical and digital experiences to enable a whole new way to make, play and discover.

The features of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers bring the Nintendo Labo experience to life. These include motion controls, HD Rumble and IR Motion Camera, plus the touch-screen technology of the console itself.

The software for many Toy-Con creations includes features that extend replay value during the Play portion of the experience, such as the ability to record original compositions with Toy-Con Piano, create original tracks for Toy-Con Motorbike, or compete against a friend with two Toy-Con RC Cars or two Toy-Con Robots (additional Toy-Con Robot Kit and additional Joy-Con controllers required for multiplayer mode; each sold separately).

Also, in the Toy-Con Garage mode (included in the software), users can apply what they learn during the make, play and discover parts of the experience by combining various simple inputs and outputs to invent new ways to play.

    • How robust is the gameplay?

Between the make, play and discover portions of the Nintendo Labo experience, the product provides many hours of enjoyment.

The software itself gives players access to the whole Nintendo Labo experience for each kit, which includes interactive instructions to make the included Toy-Con, various game-play experiences, and opportunities to explore how the Toy-Con and Nintendo Switch system come together to bring these experiences to life.

Also, in the Toy-Con Garage mode (included in the software), users can apply what they learn during the make, play and discover parts of the experience by combining various simple inputs and outputs to invent new ways to play.

    • Is Toy-Con Garage included in the software for both the Variety Kit and Robot Kit? Does it work the same for both kits?

The Toy-Con Garage mode is included in the software for both the Variety Kit and Robot Kit.

    • Will Nintendo be providing blueprints/plans for the Toy-Con?

Replacement parts such as cardboard sets and accessory sets are available for purchase from the Official Nintendo AU/NZ eBay Store and also from Nintendo Customer Service.

    • How long does it take to build these creations?

The time required varies based on the complexity of the Toy-Con and the skill of the builder. The estimated building time is stated on the packaging for each kit. There's a range of durations: some Toy-Con may take no more than 10-20 minutes, while others may take several hours.

During longer builds, users can easily take a break between steps, then come back another time to continue.

    • If a user misses a fold or incorrectly assembles a portion of the Toy-Con, will it impact the performance of the gameplay?

Incorrect assembly or skipping a step can affect the game-play experience, but Nintendo Labo software offers detailed step-by-step instructions to guide the user, and provides tips on how to repair or correct possible issues.

    • If a user does make a mistake in assembling a Toy Con during the Make process, can you easily go back and make corrections? How does a user know where the mistake happened?

The fun, step-by-step instructions included in the software for each kit are designed to help builders match every fold of their cardboard creations to the model replicated on-screen. The instructions can be rotated 360 degrees using the Nintendo Switch touch screen, and you can even rewind and fast forward each step to see where you may have missed something.

    • Do parents have to help their kids put the kits together or can kids handle it on their own?

It will vary by the age and skill of the child, and the content of the Nintendo Labo kit. Adults and some children will be able to complete a build by themselves, but we believe Nintendo Labo is most fun when people build Toy-Con with family and friends.

    • Can people customise their creations?

Once the build is complete, people can make each Toy-Con their own by customising it with their own paint, markers, stickers and other accessories - the only limit is your imagination!

Users can also purchase a Customisation Set, which includes two stencil sheets, two sticker sheets and two rolls of masking tape.

    • Can people come up with their own Toy-Con creations? What is Toy-Con Garage?

In Toy-Con Garage mode (included in the software), users can apply what they learn during the make, play and discover parts of the experience by combining various simple inputs and outputs to invent new ways to play.

    • How many times can you build each set using the original cardboard?

Each set includes cardboard that's designed to be constructed once. But once each Toy-Con is constructed, users can continue the fun by customising their creations, discovering how they work, and inventing new ways to play by combining various simple inputs and outputs in the Toy-Con Garage mode.

    • How exactly does the IR Motion Camera found in the Joy-Con controller work with the Toy-Con RC Car?

By detecting IR stickers that have been placed by the user, the IR Motion Camera (built into the right Joy-Con controller) allows the Toy-Con RC Car to move toward the stickers.

    • Is it possible to customise any in-game aspects of Toy-Con software?

The software for various Toy-Con creations includes activities to customise certain in-game elements. For example, for Toy-Con Robot, users can customise the appearance of their in-game robot; for Toy-Con Motorbike, users can create their own in-game tracks.

Also, in the Toy-Con Garage mode (included in the software), users can apply what they learn during the make, play and discover parts of the experience by combining various simple inputs and outputs to invent new ways to play.

    • Do any Toy-Con creations include a multiplayer experience or wireless play?

The core experience of making and discovering is a lot of fun when users work together with family and friends.

Two players can engage two RC Cars in a sumo-inspired competition, or race them against each other, using the two RC Cars included in the Variety Kit, one Nintendo Switch console and two sets of Joy-Con controllers. (One set of Joy-Con controllers comes with the Nintendo Switch system, and the second set is sold separately.

Two users, each with their own Toy-Con Robot, can battle one another on a single Nintendo Switch screen (additional Robot Kit and Joy-Con controllers required; sold separately).

    • I am afraid the cardboard will fall apart easily. Is the cardboard of good quality?

The cardboard included with the kits was selected to provide the best experience for people of all ages.

Because it's cardboard, repairs can usually be made with common household materials like tape and glue.

We also recommend holding onto the cardboard sheets, even after the pieces have been removed from them. Later, the removed pieces can be used as stencils to trace and cut out spare parts from the empty bits of these old sheets

    • Is the cardboard made from recycled materials? Is it recyclable?

Nintendo Labo cardboard is made from 90% recycled paper.

We recommend holding onto the cardboard sheets, even after the pieces have been removed from them. Later, the empty space left by the removed pieces can be used as stencils to trace and cut out spare parts from the empty bits of the remaining cardboard.

    • How durable are the kits? How long does each Toy-Con last under normal play use after it's been built?

Nintendo Labo Toy-Con should last a long time when used and treated properly. Certain factors can affect the condition of Toy-Con, such as how they are used, customised or stored.

    • Can I purchase replacement parts?

Replacement parts such as cardboard sets and accessory sets are available for purchase from the Official Nintendo AU/NZ eBay Store and also from Nintendo Customer Service.
