You can enjoy a free 7-day trial of the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership service. Visit Nintendo eShop on your Nintendo Switch console and select the Nintendo Switch Online option on the left navigation to activate your free trial.

Please note: one free trial period available per Nintendo Account. During the free trial, you can use the online play, voice chat via the smartphone app, Save Data Cloud, Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online and Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online services. It’s not possible to purchase classic controllers during the trial period.

If automatic renewal is set, once your free 7-day trial is over, your membership will be renewed via the automatic purchase of an individual 1-month (30 day) membership. If you do not wish to purchase a membership, you can terminate automatic renewal during the free trial and will not be charged.

If you create a Family Group, up to eight Nintendo Accounts can use the Nintendo Switch Online membership service under one Family Membership!

What is a Family Group?

Already have an Individual Membership but want a Family Membership instead? Starting from October 1st 2019, the remaining days of your Individual Membership will count towards a discount* when you purchase a Family Membership**. More details, such as discount rates, will be available on the product information page at a later date.

*Users on a 7-day free trial membership will not be eligible for a discount.

**This discount cannot be applied to a Family Membership purchased via a download code.

To purchase a Family Membership, you must be at least 18 years of age.

Changing your current membership to a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership

If you already have a Nintendo Switch Online membership and purchase a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, you will receive a discount* determined by the number of remaining days of your current membership.

The discount is up to the price of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership at the below rates:

Changing from a Nintendo Switch Online Individual membership: AU $0.08 / NZ $0.09 per day

Changing from a Nintendo Switch Online Family membership: AU $0.15 / NZ $0.16 per day

For example, if you have 100 days remaining of your Nintendo Switch Online Individual membership, you can change to a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Individual membership with a discount of AU $8.00 / NZ $9.00 (100 x AU $0.08 / NZ $0.09), reducing the price from AU $59.95 / NZ $69.95 to AU $51.95 / NZ $60.95.

After you purchase a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, your existing Nintendo Switch Online membership will expire.

*Users on a 7-day free trial membership will not be eligible for a discount. This discount cannot be applied to a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership purchased via a download code, or if your current membership was purchased via a download code.

Automatic renewal

If you are over the age of 18 and start a membership to Nintendo Switch Online, automatic renewal will be activated with the same validity period as the membership. With automatic renewal activated, the membership will automatically renew two days prior to the expiration date of the active membership. You can terminate automatic renewal at any time via Nintendo eShop.

For each automatic renewal, the automatic renewal price will be deducted from your Nintendo eShop funds. If you do not have sufficient Nintendo eShop funds, and as long as you have not selected “Funds Only”, the automatic renewal price will be charged to your credit card, or the PayPal account registered to your Nintendo Account and set as the payment method for automatic renewal at the time automatic renewal takes place.

You can change your payment method for automatic renewal at any time from Pass Settings in your Account Information, found in Nintendo eShop.

The automatic renewal feature is unavailable for Nintendo Accounts under the age of 18.

Please note that you cannot change the country/region setting for your Nintendo Account if automatic renewal is enabled. In order to change the country/region setting, you must first terminate all automatic renewals.

If you purchase or redeem a new Family Membership, automatic renewal will be terminated for any Individual Membership plan that is active for you or members of your Family Group. However, automatic renewal will not be terminated for any user who already had an Individual Membership plan or Family Membership with automatic renewal before they became a member of a previously established Family Group. For example, if a user has an Individual Membership plan, and then joins a Family Group, they will still need to terminate their Individual Membership plan.
