Aug 24, 2015 / News

Arcade Hit Comes to Nintendo’s Wii U in Autumn 2016

The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo have announced the upcoming release of Pokkén Tournament for Wii U. Currently an arcade game available only in Japan, Pokkén Tournament for Wii U will be released in Australia and New Zealand in autumn 2016.

Developed in collaboration with BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc., producers of TEKKEN®, one of the most successful fighting-game franchises in history, Pokkén Tournament brings Pokémon to life in a way never before seen, where Pokémon in battle move in direct response to the player’s actions. The intuitive controls make this fighting game accessible to players of all skill levels, and the stunning visuals emphasise the size and power of each Pokémon.

“Pokkén Tournament combines the best elements of a traditional fighting game with an authentic Pokémon experience,” said J.C. Smith, director of Consumer Marketing at The Pokémon Company International. “Fans will be thrilled to see their favourite Pokémon battle in a whole new way.”

Mario, Zelda, Xenoblade, Star Fox and more still to come in 2015

Nintendo has announced details on a range of key upcoming titles for its Wii U and Nintendo 3DS family of systems, with a string of launch dates and newly revealed special editions.

Unveiled at E3, The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes allows three players take on the role of individual Link characters and team up to solve unique Zelda-style puzzles and boss fights. With one life meter to share, working together will be key to overcome the game’s many dungeons… This new title in The Legend of Zelda series will launch 24th October in Australia and New Zealand.

Following the recent announcement of a range of hardware and software bundles for Super Mario Maker when it launches 12th September, you can check out the Nintendo World Championships and ‘Think You Know Mario?’ trailers to get a taste for how you can create brand new courses as well as play the seemingly endless supply of inventive Mario levels from players around the world.

Coming to Wii U in December, Xenoblade Chronicles X is set amidst an intergalactic war between aliens and human survivors, where players fight for survival while exploring the massive expanses of an unknown planet. Today, two limited edition bundles have been revealed to be launching alongside the game:

Fans of limited edition offerings should keep an eye out for Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water, coming to Wii U on 31st October. NINDIES@HOME LETS PLAYERS TEST-DRIVE 9 INDIE GAMES FOR Wii U

Jul 30, 2015 / News

Nintendo eShop for Wii U promotion includes 15 percent off purchase of full games

Starting tomorrow, Nintendo eShop is offering a promotion so that fans in Australia and New Zealand can play some of the hottest upcoming indie games on Wii U.

For a limited time only, the Nindies@Home programme – launched recently in the United States and Europe – lets people download* free preview versions of nine Nindie games from Nintendo eShop for Wii U. Three different titles will be available each week until 20th August 2015, and best of all, once the full games launch, players of the Nindies@Home preview versions can save 15 percent on the price of each respective full version for one month after their release**.

Games and developers participating in the Nindies@Home programme include:

31st July – 6th August

  • forma.8 from Mixed Bag: In a distant future, the small exploration probe forma.8 is stranded alone on the surface of an alien planet. Players must explore a huge open world to help the probe acquire 10 different power-ups and recover a powerful energy source deep under the surface. The game includes an area exclusive to the Wii U version.
  • Runbow from 13AM Games: Up to nine players can join in the colourful chaos in this Nintendo eShop exclusive. The world transforms before players’ eyes with each swipe of colour, so think fast to stay alive. Go head to head in Run, Arena and King of the Hill, or play as the ColorMaster and manipulate the environment on the Wii U GamePad controller. Players can take on challenges alone or with friends in Runbow’s Adventure Mode. The full game also features guest characters from other Nintendo eShop titles.
  • Extreme Exorcism from Ripstone: In this paranormal Wii U platformer, every move players make comes back to haunt them. After each round players survive, a ghost will appear to mimic their every move from the round before. The longer a player survives, the more extreme the game becomes. The game offers 20 ghostbusting weapons, 50 challenges and co-op or deathmatch battles for up to four friends.

7th August – 13th August

  • Lovely Planet from tinybuild and QUICKTEQUILA: This first-person shooter gun ballet for Wii U is set in a cutesy abstract world. Players jump and shoot their way through five worlds full of treacherous enemies with your trusty semi-automatic. The game offers a hundred levels to master and five worlds to discover, with multiple secrets hidden deep within each world.
  • RIVE from Two Tribes: This metal wrecking, robot hacking Wii U shooter combines old-school gaming values in a new-school execution. With intense 360-degree shooting and platforming action, players learn to alter the behaviour of their robotic enemies by collecting and uploading hacks.
  • Typoman from Headup Games: Change Words, Change Worlds! Typoman is a two-dimensional puzzle platformer distinguished by a unique game world. Be the HERO and set out on the journey to become whole and gain the powers you need to defeat the giant, evil demon that rules the world you are trapped in.

14th August – 20th August

  • Freedom Planet from GalaxyTrail Games: Players fight their way across the celestial world of Avalice, where cats are green, motorcycles drive up walls and monster girls do most of the butt kicking. This cartoony, combat-based platform Wii U adventure pits a spunky dragonoid and her friends against an alien attack force.
  • Mutant Mudds Super Challenge from Renegade Kid: This platformer picks up right where the original Mutant Mudds left off. The game, which is exclusive to Nintendo eShop on both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, includes 40 new dimension-bending levels and epic boss fights designed for super players.
  • Soul Axiom from Wales Interactive: More than 40 unique locations await in this first-person sci-fi Wii U adventure. The game is a psychological thriller with exploration and puzzle elements. Players interact with cryptic logic puzzles, make psychological decisions and explore memories to unlock the secrets of their identity.

*Depending on the Wii U console you own and the use of it, an additional storage device may be required to download software from Nintendo eShop.

** Full version must be purchased on the same Wii U the preview version was downloaded to. The preview version must be downloaded first.

COLLECT, BUILD & BATTLE YOUR PALM-SIZED ROBOTS IN LITTLE BATTLERS EXPERIENCE ON NINTENDO 3DS

Jul 30, 2015 / News

The next hit series from LEVEL-5 comes to Australia and New Zealand on 5th September

In a world where toy robots constitute more than just child’s play, can a group of middle-school children fight the forces of corruption to save that world from the brink of disaster? The answer awaits in Little Battlers eXperience, a role-playing game with real-time battle action launching 5th September on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, which gives players a near-infinite amount of possibilities to customise their own LBX robot and bring it to life in battle.

Little Battlers eXperience is the first game for Nintendo 3DS in the next hit series from developer LEVEL-5 - the force behind series like Professor Layton and Inazuma Eleven - which also spans a successful anime series, manga and toy line overseas. The game follows the first season of the anime, set in the year 2046 and telling the story of Van Yamano, a middle-school student who is a fan of the palm-sized LBX robots: a range of toys that were previously deemed too dangerous to control. Since the invention of Battle Boxes – dioramas made from an advanced type of fortified cardboard – kids can safely let their LBXs duke it out in dedicated arenas via remote control units.

The story kicks off when a mysterious woman entrusts Van with a special “AX-00” model LBX that she says could either save the world… or destroy it. Van soon finds himself in battle with a rival at school, as he tries to secure the Armor parts for his Achilles set. But as an evil organization called the New Dawn Raisers sets its eyes on Van’s prized possession, the stakes are about to get a lot higher – not only for Van and his friends, but for the whole world!

Customisation is key when it comes to besting your opponents - whether that’s the New Dawn Raisers or your mates down the road. So with more than 130 different models and over 4.000 individual parts to collect, it’s down to you to build a truly unique LBX, assigning Weapons, Armor and Core Units before you watch your creation come to life in battle.

These battles take place in the aforementioned Battle Boxes, which may look like little dioramas but in fact conceal miniature worlds inside. As you control your LBX from a third-person perspective, make sure you use the environments to your advantage, dashing and jumping to manoeuver your LBX in place for a well-timed attack. From melee attacks to long-raged assaults, your actions will deplete your Tension Gage and when that runs out, your power and speed will be dramatically reduced, so use your wits and adapt your play style to your LBX and its load-out.

Be on the lookout for heavily damaged opponents: you could risk a Breaking Blow to see them off once and for all, but failure will cause your LBX to overheat, which limits your movement speed and leaves you open to attack…

Up to 6 players can compete in battles via local wireless multiplayer, but whether playing solo or with friends, keep in mind that LBXs gradually wear out as they battle. If the Maintenance Gage depletes fully, the LBX parts won’t gain as many Tune-up Points at the end of a successful battle, so be sure to grease up your LBX to keep it in fighting shape.

Free Add-on Content will be made available via SpotPass on a weekly basis from launch until June 2016. Players just need to connect their Nintendo 3DS family system to the internet in order to download new LBX Cards, Quests and Capsule Toys.

Build the best LBX in the world and watch it come to life in battle as you take down the evil New Dawn Raisers from 5th September in Little Battlers eXperience on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

INK-TASTIC NEW CONTENT COMING TO SPLATOON WITH A MAJOR UPDATE RELEASING ON 6th AUGUST

Jul 27, 2015 / News

On 6th August, a free software update* for Splatoon on Wii U brings a large amount of new content to the game, including two new matchmaking modes, new weapon types, an increase to the game’s level-cap and more than 40 pieces of new gear. Players will now be able to create a winning strategy and fight to be the best and most battle tested squid-squad around.

The new update introduces Squad Battle and Private Battle matchmaking options. In Squad Battle, players can participate in Ranked Battle rule sets with friends, rather than being teamed up with other players through a random selection. After a player creates a squad, friends can be recruited to form a team of two to four Inklings. Friends will always play together on the same team and battle against other squads at random.

In Private Battle, friends can splat it up in private, customisable matches. Two to eight friends can battle together by selecting their favourite map, mode and weapons. The number of participants ranges from 1v1 to 4v4, but teams don’t have to be even: if the host chooses, he or she can select a 1v4, 1v2, or any other combination of players.

With this robust new update also comes an increased level cap in both Regular Battle and Ranked Battle modes. After downloading the software update, players will be able to reach level 50 (raised from level 20) and rank S and S+ in Ranked Battle (both higher than A+).

While Inklings around the world are enjoying and mastering the current arsenal of weapons in Splatoon, two new weapon types will be available with the update, adding a new layer of strategy to the game. The bucket-like Slosher weapons hurl ink straight ahead at an impressive range. By adjusting the angle, these new weapons can be used to splat opponents who are up high or even on the other side of a wall. With the Gatling-style Splatling, players can charge all-powerful ink. A maximum charge unleashes the full potential of this particular weapon type. In addition to the new weapons, more than 40 pieces of gear, including everything from a leather jacket to a sushi-chef costume are coming to the various in-game shops in Splatoon.

Despite its size and scope, this massive August update is not the end of the splat-tacular free content coming to Splatoon. Following this update, more content will continually roll out through the rest of the winter and into spring, including the Rainmaker Ranked Battle mode, additional maps and new weapons. More details on these additions will be revealed in the future.
