Nintendo announces that the much loved Donkey Kong(TM) Country series comes to Wii(TM) for the first time with Donkey Kong(TM) Country Returns available from 2 December 2010.
Retro Studios faithfully restores Donkey Kong(TM) in a new side-scrolling action game for Wii, with familiar characters and new levels that will reignite the passion players had for the Donkey Kong Country series on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System(TM) (SNES). Featuring everything that made the original series great, from barrels to mine carts, and even the original music, Donkey Kong Country Returns brings the popular series to Wii, but with levels created in fully rendered layered environments.
For the first time ever, the franchise features the ability for two people to play together at the same time - one as Donkey Kong, and one as Diddy Kong(TM). Players can navigate the levels separately or as one unit. Diddy Kong can ride on Donkey Kong's back and hop off whenever he pleases, which allows new players to ride on Donkey Kong's back through more challenging areas of the game.
Not just for fans of the original Donkey Kong Country series, even people who have never played a Donkey Kong game before can pick up a Wii Remote(TM) and start collecting loads of bananas! Every level offers a barrel of fun with vibrant colours, beautiful graphics and fun characters to draw players in.
The story-line for Donkey Kong Country Returns starts with Donkey Kong Island being controlled by a group of evil Tiki Tak Tribes. The animals in Donkey Kong Island have raided Donkey Kong's Banana Hoard and stolen his stash of bananas - and he wants them back!
While seeing a return of the characters' traditional moves, Donkey Kong Country Returns offers some new additions; both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong now have the ability to cling to grass covered walls and ceilings. Diddy Kong also has the ability to hover with his Barrel Jet and shoot peanuts from his Peanut Popgun. Players can also shake the Wii Remote to make Donkey Kong pound the ground, roll on enemies and blow air.
As if all that wasn't enough, a host of hidden items, puzzle pieces and other surprises are hidden in each level just waiting to be discovered. Hidden throughout each level are bonus objects to collect in the form of the letters K-O-N-G. If players manage to spell out K-O-N-G by the end of each level, the fruits of their labour will be rewarded with something special. Those looking for an extra challenge will find the Time Attack mode puts them through their paces by challenging the player to complete each level as fast as possible.
Donkey Kong Country Returns SRP AU $99.95 / SRP NZ $129.00*
