When Mario dreams that “Subcon” the land of dreams is in trouble, he knows that he is about to embark upon an exciting and perilous adventure. A few days later, Mario and his friends stumble upon a strange cave that mysteriously takes them to the very same world from Mario’s dream! It is up to Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad to save the land of dreams from the mysterious mischief maker Wart and his monster making dream machine.

- Players explore the world of dreams in true platform style. Lots of enemies to dodge or defeat, big jumps to clear, vines to climb, items to throw, tricks and traps to avoid and secret areas to discover.
- The world of dreams consists of 7 worlds with 20 huge levels.
- Mario and friends pick vegetables from the ground and hurl them at enemies and even pick up enemies to throw them across the screen at each other.
- There is a big Boss enemy to battle at the end of each world, ranging from giant three headed fire breathing Snakes, to a Bomb throwing Mouse and the evil Wart himself.
- The game begins fairly easily, but as usual the classic Mario gameplay gets more and more challenging.
- There are two multiplayer modes available in the original Mario Bros Arcade game.
- 2-4 player Battle: Players try to be the first to get 5 coins, while doing all they can to sabotage their friends’ efforts. This mode only requires 1 Game Pak.
- 2-4 player Classic: Players team-up in the arcade game and work cooperatively, or compete against each other for some devious competition. This mode requires one Game Pak per player.
