There’s more than one way to throw a cap

Along with the standard straight throw, Mario can send Cappy flying upwards or downwards, or even unleash Spin Throws!

Use your cap as a platform

Mario can throw Cappy and have him hover in place for a few moments – perfect for use as an impromptu platform to get to places a little further out of reach.

Capture enemies

Throw Cappy at enemies and objects to Capture them! Doing so allows Mario to take on their abilities, which’ll certainly come in handy on his adventure.

The trip of a lifetime

Travel guide

From mysterious, ancient ruins to neon-lit cityscapes, right through to beach resorts surrounded by soda-pop seas, Super Mario Odyssey has it all! Take a look at some of the highlights below.

Metro Kingdom

New Donk City

The cutting-edge metropolis that never sleeps

Metro Kingdom

New Donk City

The cutting-edge metropolis that never sleeps

Tips for visitors

  • 1. Take time to explore the futuristic city that owes its rapid development to Power Moons.
  • 2. The people can be a little too serious for their own good, but if you see an open door, it means you're welcome.
  • 3. Street festivals are held from time-to-time – don’t miss out on the fun.

New Donk City is home to some of the world's leading companies, and is known for its soaring skyscrapers. Visitors should make time for the magnificent views of the city at night from the roof of the City Hall, known as the Million-Coin View. Just be warned that it's always crawling with tourists...

(Please note that construction work is underway at the City Hall, so it might be better to head to one of the neighbouring buildings instead.)

The people here all dress in formal attire, and they can come off as being a bit cold. During the city's lively street festivals though, they let their hair down and couldn't be more welcoming, eager for visitors to join in the fun and see their city at its best! Be sure to check in advance to see when the next festival is taking place.

Traveller’s log

I was passing the City Hall when, who should I see but Mayor Pauline! I'd only ever seen her on the cover of magazines before, but there she was, large as life! And she was happy for me to snap a picture with her! I'll always treasure it.

Sand Kingdom

Tostarena

A picturesque town surrounded by desert dunes and ancient ruins

Sand Kingdom

Tostarena

A picturesque town surrounded by desert dunes and ancient ruins

Tips for visitors

  • 1. Enjoy exploring the bright and breezy desert town inhabited by cheerful folks.
  • 2. Check out the assortment of ancient monuments, including the breathtaking Inverted Pyramid.
  • 3. Get a closer look at the intricate gem-themed carvings you'll find all over the place.

The Sand Kingdom is located in the roasting, red-hot desert, where the average temperature is 40⁰C. Intrepid wanderers will find all sorts of ancient ruins here, none more impressive than the extraordinary Inverted Pyramid.

Although it looks like it might crumble at any moment, it still draws in sightseers from far and wide. Legend has it that there is a precious wedding ring concealed somewhere within it…

For visitors eager to investigate the pyramid for themselves, the best place to be based is in the small town of Tostarena. With its colourful buildings and friendly people, it's a welcome oasis amidst the desert heat.

Traveller’s log

The best way to travel around the desert is on board the Jaxi. It’ll keep your feet from touching the scorching sands, but be sure to strap yourself in – it’s a high-speed ride, and not for the faint-hearted!

Luncheon Kingdom

Mount Volbono

A hot-blooded town with fiery local cuisine

Luncheon Kingdom

Mount Volbono

A hot-blooded town with fiery local cuisine

Tips for visitors

  • 1. Make sure you try the celebrated Stupendous Stew.
  • 2. The local cuisine is known for its enormous vegetables and rocks of cheese.
  • 3. The entrance to the town is a favourite spot for those in the know.

This bright and beautiful town surrounded by lakes of molten lava looks like it comes straight out of a picture book.

Mount Volbono is a culinary hotspot with cuisine that makes use of highly unusual local ingredients, such as giant vegetables and rocks of cheese. Head to the local cooking carnival, where you can enjoy the famed Stupendous Stew. Cooked in a giant pot using the volcano's fiery heat, this is fine dining taken to a whole new level. It's as delicious as the name suggests, filled with local free-range meat from the volcanic plains, and all sorts of extra-special ingredients added by expert local chefs.

But it's not all about eating – Mount Volbono is a historic town, and the entrance by the old castle walls is well worth a visit.

Traveller’s log

The meat you'll find lying out on the plains around the town is pretty extraordinary. Try to check it out before it gets popped into a hotpot and cooked up for the carnival.

Wooded Kingdom

Steam Gardens

Nature and technology come together in the Wooded Kingdom

Wooded Kingdom

Steam Gardens

Nature and technology come together in the Wooded Kingdom

Tips for visitors

  • 1. Be sure to view the huge flowers grown in the climate-controlled dome.
  • 2. Meet the Steam Gardeners, folks who really love their work.
  • 3. Enjoy the perfect harmony between technology and nature.

Don't let the abundant nature of the Wooded Kingdom fool you – it's a very technologically advanced place.

The vast dome that encloses the Kingdom means the temperature is kept constant, and is perfect for growing flowers. The dense forest is ripe for exploring, not least to get a closer look at the robots who‘re always busy tending to the plants. Known as Steam Gardeners, they work tirelessly and can even repair themselves. No-one knows why they expend so much energy on the plants and flowers here, but they seem to enjoy it.

Walk through the forest and you'll come across a large building that used to be some kind of factory. The Steam Gardeners have repurposed it, and now use it to grow plants while keeping the old machinery running.

The flowers known as Soirée Bouquet are hugely popular amongst brides-to-be the world over.

Traveller’s log

There are believed to be enormous beasts living in the overgrown forest beneath the cliffs, but I didn't quite have the courage to go down there and investigate…

Cascade Kingdom

Fossil Falls

A secluded spot at the edge of the world

Cascade Kingdom

Fossil Falls

A secluded spot at the edge of the world

Tips for visitors

  • 1. Enjoy panoramic views centred on a giant cascading waterfall.
  • 2. Meet the dinosaurs, the rulers of the ancient world, who still survive here.
  • 3. Take in a huge range of ancient monuments and ruins.

With countless cascading waterfalls, this is a beautiful spot hidden away at the very edge of the world.

The vast waterfall in the centre of the region is impossible to miss, and will take your breath away with its awesome power. The unspoiled nature and long history of Fossil Falls make it an ideal spot to explore. Take a close look at the cliff walls and you'll find all manner of strange and startling fossils.

It's not just a place to find fossils though – dinosaurs still walk this wild land! The battle for survival over many millennia has made these creatures strong, though they can still be scared off with a well-aimed rock.

To get the best views of these gigantic beasts, try creeping up to them when they are dozing.

Traveller’s log

Taking a closer look at the huge walls around Fossil Falls, it seems like they’ve been destroyed and rebuilt many times. Could there be something buried within them? I wonder…

Cap Kingdom

Bonneton

A town full of classic architecture, with a twist!

Cap Kingdom

Bonneton

A town full of classic architecture, with a twist!

Tips for visitors

  • 1. Visit the buildings constructed in the shape of hats.
  • 2. Make time to see the seas of clouds illuminated by the moon.
  • 3. Meet the kind-hearted and impeccably well-mannered townspeople.

The classic architecture in this town has an interesting twist! The most famous landmark is the hat-themed Bonneton Tower, and it’s well worth climbing to the top to enjoy the stunning sight of the clouds at night, lit up by the moon.

Bonneton is famous for its hat-shaped buildings, but you'll see hat motifs everywhere you go – from people's houses to street lights. Make sure you bring your camera, as you won't ever have seen anything quite like this before!

The local people are just as refined and elegant as their town, and they’ll always be happy to take the time to chat with you.

Traveller’s log

For whatever reason, you can't go into people's houses, but it seems it's fine to climb up on their roofs…

Snow Kingdom

Shiveria

The harsh climate doesn’t stop people having fun!

Snow Kingdom

Shiveria

The harsh climate doesn’t stop people having fun!

Tips for visitors

  • 1. By all means go for a dip, but don't stay in there too long!
  • 2. Find the underground entrance to the town, but be warned that it could be blocked by snow.
  • 3. In the Bound Bowl Grand Prix, the niftiest jumper will win the day.

The Snow Kingdom is a chilly region, covered in ice that has built up over many thousands of years. Although you won't be able to see much during the frequent blizzards, when the weather clears, you can enjoy beautiful views of the sea and sky.

If you go for a dip, make it a short one – the freezing temperatures can be rather unpleasant for an extended swim.

The people here are a hardy breed, and they’ve carved the town of Shiveria out of blocks of solid ice. While it's warmer in the town than it is up on the surface, you should still pack your scarf and mittens.

If you've come all the way here, you simply must watch the Bound Bowl Grand Prix. The locals are fiercely competitive and will stop at nothing to seize victory.

Traveller’s log

I thought the blizzard was never going to end, but when it finally cleared, I found myself face-to-face with a host of unfamiliar creatures. Apparently, they only emerge when the weather is good…

Seaside Kingdom

Bubblaine

A resort island in a soda-pop sea

Seaside Kingdom

Bubblaine

A resort island in a soda-pop sea

Tips for visitors

  • 1. The four fountains in the Glass Tower have to be seen to be believed.
  • 2. The vast ocean around the resort is endlessly captivating.
  • 3. Enjoy playing beach volleyball – you won't find it anywhere else.

When you arrive in the seaside resort of Bubblaine, the first thing you'll see is the huge Glass Tower right at the centre of the island.

The four fountains that surround it shoot seawater high up into the air, and for some strange reason, this turns the fizzy pop in the ocean into a delicate and refined beverage known as Sparkle Water. This water is highly prized as a local delicacy, so you should definitely try some.

It wouldn't be the seaside without a spot of beach volleyball, and Bubblaine certainly won't let you down on this score. Even if you're a beginner, the dedicated coach will be only too happy to show you the ropes.

Traveller’s log

I went for a dip in the ocean and couldn't believe what I found – an underwater cavern! When I started to explore it, I was attacked by a giant monster, so keep your wits about you if you plan to go down there…

1. Check the map so you don’t miss anything!

You’ll find all sorts of useful information on the map, so make sure you give it a thorough gander when arriving in a new Kingdom.

guide-map-image.png

2. Find local outfits and souvenirs in Crazy Cap

Crazy Cap is a chain of stores specialising in outfits and souvenirs from the local area. The friendly staff are just waiting for you to pay them a visit.

The service is second to none!

The after-sales service at Crazy Cap takes some beating. All of your purchases will be delivered directly to the Odyssey at no extra cost!

guide-card.png

3. Capture your favourite moments on film

Snapshot Mode lets you take pictures at any point in your journey. You can put a unique spin on pictures by applying filters, changing the perspective and rotating the image. You’ll be able to share the pictures you’re most proud of on social media *, so why not show everyone else what a great time you’re having?

*An internet connection and a Nintendo Account are required to use the social network screenshot posting services.
